PDMU Lessons for Shared Classes Year 6- Similarities and Differences

PDMU Theme:  Similarities and Differences          

The lessons plans were developed by Primary School teachers involved in a Shared Education Project in the SELB- The Primary Curriculum Partnership Programme.  The teachers taught the lessons together during their shared classes.

There are 6 lesson plans and include the following lessons/topics aimed at Year 6 class:

  • Exploring identity, prejudice, discrimination and sectarianism (2 lessons)
  • Developing an understanding of how stereotypes and prejudices are often inaccurate
  • Exploring identity, prejudice, discrimination and anti social behaviour: Children will learn more about building positive relationships with people who are different
  • Considering the challenges and issues that arise when people hold prejudices and negative attitudes towards others and how this can be avoided, lessened or resolved
  • Recognising and respecting the similarities and differences between each other’s identity, e.g. age, culture, race, religion, sporting interests, abilities and work.
